This common doodle indicates a need for security. This type of drawing is often a favourite with extreme introverts. Drawing a heart indicates you’re in love with love.īusy, highly-detailed doodles are often drawn by people with an obsessive nature, who simply will not let go of their ambitions or loved ones. Child-like doodles of faces suggest neediness. If you sketch weird or ugly faces, you are probably mistrustful.Ĭomic faces demonstrate a desire to be the centre of attention. What you tend to draw frequently reveals volumes about your mood and personality. Ever catch yourself doodling the same thing over and over again? As the proliferation in recent years of amateur sexual videos and live performances via webcams has demonstrated, though, more than a few of us are quite willing to amuse audiences by sharing our intimacies with them. The next day, the incensed wife marches into the office, discharges the secretary, and replaces her with a man.Ī variation on the same theme - the movies' ability to place people in compromising situations for the amusement of an audience - is echoed in a related legend about a couple's accidentally returning a sexy tape of themselves to a video store. The scene shifts to a theater, where the boss and his wife are watching a movie, when inexplicably the intimate office encounter is thrown on the screen. The boss and an attractive female secretary then enter his office and begin embracing, while, unbeknownst to them, the boy cranks the camera. The film opens in a business office, where a man is explaining the operation of a movie camera to an office boy. Consider this description of the 1903 film, The Story the Biograph Told: What's even more remarkable is that a tale with all the same elements of this legend (lovers clandestinely filmed by an outsider, the results displayed to others, the principals' finding out through an inadvertent viewing of the film) date to the very earliest days of motion pictures. "Ah," said the madam, "but last night was for the movies." "Wasn't I here last evening, and didn't I go through every kind of screw, and you didn't charge me a sou?" Again he went through his performance, but this time, when he made a bluff at paying the piper he was informed the charges were seven hundred francs. He could barely wait till dinner time before he again presented himself before the bawds. All next day he hugged his secret to himself. "There is no charge," said the lady of the house.Īstonished, but not disposed to argue the matter, her guest left. Thoroughly drained, the gentleman from Idaho went downstairs, where he asked the madam what his bill was. After the meal the man entertained himself in various ways with his playmate, who taught him positions of which even Elephantis, Aretino and Luisa Sigea were ignorant. Went there by himself, quietly, asked for a private room, and, after selecting his partner, ordered dinner with lots of wine. So he asked a cabby to give him the address of a good whorehouse. The following version, for example, comes from a 1927 humor collection:Ī gentleman from Idaho was in Paris and didn't want to make himself too conspicuous. In these older versions, however, the victims are not sweethearts or married couples innocently engaged in private lovemaking (as in the example above), but characters such as adulterers or bawdy house patrons who are being punished for having transgressed the sexual mores of their times. What makes this legend particularly interesting from a folkloric standpoint is its age - tales of secretly-filmed sexual encounters antedate the development of the home video market by several decades. Moreover, it was at a Cove Haven, a small hotel on a lake in the Poconos, where Morris Wilkins invented and installed the world's first heart-shaped bathtub in 1963. Pennsylvania Poconos feature no less than eight resorts that cater to couples by offering a variety of romantic facilities. That version's setting of the Poconos ("the honeymoon capital of the world") is an obvious one, for the The Canterbury Inn case involved no cameras, but with the advent of home video equipment has grown progressively cheaper, smaller, and better in quality, the creation of a legend (real or not) like the example quoted above was inevitable. They won their invasion of privacy lawsuit to the tune of $4.3 million in punitive and compensatory damages (although they eventually settled for $1 million, the limit of the hotel's insurance coverage). Gave someone a view into their suite that night. In one of the most prominent examples, an Iowa couple who celebrated their engagement night with a private evening in a penthouse suite at the Canterbury Inn in Coralville, Iowa, in 1988 sued the hotel after discovering a peephole behind a two-way mirror - a peephole that Tales of peepholes set up to allow the furtive observance of people's private activities in bathrooms and hotel rooms - and lawsuits resulting from them - have been circulating for years, many of them based on real incidents. Origins: What could be a more painfully embarrassing and shocking violation of your privacy than discovering someone had been watching you (without your consent or knowledge) while you wereĮngaged in the deeply personal and intimate act of making love with your partner? How about finding out that someone had secretly made a video tape of the event - one that had been distributed to countless others for their viewing pleasure? Such is the premise of this legend. Yeah, well, you can thank me later.īe it Facebook profile pictures, LinkedIn banners, or any social media image they are undoubtedly the backbone of all social media platforms. So, to save your gorgeous creatives from going down the drain, I have listed down the sizes of all the social media platforms. Thousand other things could go wrong here. You made an amazing image, and just because you didn’t optimize the images right, half of the elements got cut or stretched out. It’s all the elements put together that make a great image. We all know that images don’t just look good because of any one element. Well, who doesn’t like an image well done? Psst here’s a secret… It’s the right social media image sizes that make them look so good. Behold the power of the optimized social media images! Unfortunatley for SketchUp use, a DWG (or any other export from a pro design tool) can cause major issues with the modelling precision and ultimately may cause errors, crashes, etc. With PDF that all goes away - what you see is what they want you to see, and it has all the legal notes etc. That’s only about 10% of projects though - most of the time you work with a range of consultants who may not have any budget allowance to make your job easier. If you’re in a defined project team with a longer-term project, it makes sense to create a data sharing protocol along these lines. AND i get them to export it as a SKP otherwise its a huge mess and crashes eveything. I also explode every building down to basic 3d shell (otherwise it’s 1000s of unique nested groups on 100s of Tags) and I strip all the geometry of its colour (otherwise every edge just about has a unique colour). Because their cross section planes, elevatons and other stuff wont appear in Sketchup. If i receive architectural models (eg Archicad) i always ask for the 3d shell (for context) and a nested 2d DWG layer for each floor plan (ground,1st, 2nd,etc). It usually requires some process of simplifying the project model at their end, and working with you to choose settings that fit well for SketchUp (eg “dont triangulate every face”). Any time data is issued to you, best practise is for you to work with the peson who sent it to you so that they see it and can verify that what you get is what they intended. The rise of parametric modelling, GIS, etc makes export to DWG a LOT more difficult.ĭesign software handles 3d data quite differently by default so importing a 3d model into sketchup (or from sketchup into other products) may not work reliably and/or will result in lots of time spent rearranging things, triangulating meshes or building faces, etc. I often trade basic data, eg site boundary or other simple 2d info but even a preliminary plan exported to DWG these days may well contain 1000s of layers and 3d ‘components’, complex geometry (terrain model) and so forth. We're happy to discuss what software may work best for your project.I can answer that from my perspective…and just cos its an interesting discussion… There are other free/open-source packages for all these areas.įor more information on the software paths you can take to go from idea, to design, to finished project, please see our CAD/CAM Toolchain page. The first thing you need to do is create a basic layout so the page is large enough to actually show a scrollbar in your web browser: Quickly and responsively toggle the display, overflow, visibility, and more with the display utilities. On the other hand if you are thinking about implementing a custom scrollbar at work or some project where you want to make money, you should try A/B testing and make a data driven decision based on the results.Īt the end of the day most of us are writing code to drive revenue for a business, so you always need to keep that in mind. overflow: hidden white-space: nowrap The text-overflow property only affects content that is overflowing a block container element in its inline progression direction (not text overflowing at the bottom of a box, for example). If you are doing this for your own personal website you probably don't need to worry about it as long as you like how it looks. To make text overflow its container, you have to set other CSS properties: overflow and white-space. If you modify your scrollbar too much, it may confuse people using your website or app. On the other hand, many UI designers believe that you should never interfere with "standardized" UI components like the scrollbar. Anything that can make your website even a little bit more memorable to visitors will benefit you long term. The overflow-style property only has an effect on elements that overflow using the overflow. This page is based on the CSS Basic Box Model, because if marquee is going to be supported, that would have a bigger chance of being supported. The upside is that it can give your website a chance to standout compared to the millions of websites using the browser default scrollbar. CSS Basic Box Model and CSS Marquee Module Lelel 3 both specify a different overflow-style property. Before jumping into the code, I think it's worth looking at some potential tradeoffs that come with creating a custom scrollbar for your website or app. |
